ALPHA KAPPA ALPHA SORORITY, INCORPORATED®

ETA UPSILON OMEGA

Chapter Programs

Eta Upsilon Omega chapter has poured into the lives of young people through thousands of dollars in scholarships over the past thirty-six years through our signature program "Hats Off to Mom Scholarship Luncheon".  Our annual Ivylette Youth Group Ball show cases young women and men and is a formal celebration of Saginaw's next generation of leaders.

We can be seen participating in community service activities such as the MLK Jr. International Day of Service volunteering at the Underground Railroad, an organization that serves victims of domestic violence, sexual assault, stalking and human slavery in Saginaw County.  We exposed students to Historically Black Colleges and Universities through a showcase at the Saginaw Pan-Hellenic Council Talent Exposition with information on the “Common Black College Application”.  Some of our members have pledged to sponsor the application fee for students.

Our annual Pink Goes Red event focused on Women's Heart Health and included CPR demonstrations, blood pressure screenings, a hip hop workout, an informational on cardiac health and healthy snacks.  Mrs. Denisha Felder, RN and certified CPR instructor for American Heart Assoc., Nikki Jones-Wilburn certified trainer at Coop’s Iron works offered their services to make this event a success.  We collaborated with the Saginaw Valley State University’s Boehm Writing Center to offer a series of writing workshops and the Saginaw Community Foundation to help students prepare scholarship essays and writing effective SAT essays.  We've partnered with local churches to donate hundreds of pairs of shoes to Soles4Souls;  make hundreds of dresses and shirts for children in Africa; and donated hundreds of dollars to the Food Bank of Eastern Michigan.

We are politically astute as well.  We can been seen co-hosting the Saginaw NAACP chapter meeting annually to emphasize voter education, registration and participation.  We participated in a Virtual Census Day Party in collaboration with Delta College, the NAACP Saginaw Chapter, Houghton-Jones Neighborhood Association and Saginaw Sorority Sisters to educate the public on the importance of the census and process, encourage census form completion and discuss community organization partnership opportunities.
